solitude

At the end of this week that has contained more time alone than time spent with people, I stumbled across these words from Amma Matrona, one of the Desert Mothers who practiced Christianity in its earliest centuries:

“It is better to live in a crowd and want to live a solitary life
than to live in solitude and be longing all the time for company.”

I will be glad to see my family tomorrow.
