Ten on Tuesday: Things I Love About Greensboro Edition

1. The Greensboro Grasshoppers, our minor league baseball team, who are in the championship finals right now, for the first time in 11 years. We went to the game tonight, and though the score was not looking good when we left after the 8th inning, it was still a lovely outing for a September evening.

2. Our neighbors, who we ran into in the driveway on our way out to the game. Ten minutes later, we ran into one of them again, at the ball park, on the way into the game.

3. The fact that it only takes ten minutes to get from our driveway to the gate of the ball park.

4. Guilford, the Grasshoppers’ mascot.

How could you not love a town with a mascot like that?

5. The Greensboro News and Record, which delivers fresh local news to our door every morning. It’s how we knew about the Grasshoppers’ winning streak, and that there was a game tonight. It’s also where a column about our steeple raising will be printed tomorrow, along with a multi-media slideshow of me reading my essay about the steeple.

6. Jack’s Corner Mediterranean Deli, where I went by myself for lunch yesterday when all I wanted in the world was a falafel sandwich and french fries.

7. The fact that in the almost three years we’ve lived here, we’ve done a whole lot of the things Greensboro has to offer.

8. The fact that there’s still a whole lot left to do.

9. Our baby, who will be born in Greensboro, and who is as long as a leek this week, according to babycenter. Let’s hope that leek has its head pointing in the right direction.

10. The kids’ room, which is also conveniently located in Greensboro, and which got its final touches today after the delivery of a new bedspread for Harper. We’ve spent all summer transforming it from “her” room to “the kids’ room,” a change which Harper has been delightful supportive of. I’m guessing it will never be this clean again:
