In This One, You.

In this one,
you have generously given up most of your bed
to your babies.
You tucked them carefully into their blankets
before finding your spot on the far side of the bed.
Something about this picture
reminds me of the scene from E.T.,
when Elliott’s mother glances in the closet
but doesn’t see E.T. hiding among the stuffed animals.
There is not even enough room for you on the pillow,
but you seem to be comfortable enough,
arms stretched above your head
the way you slept when you were a baby yourself.
You are oblivious to Daddy and I standing here,
marveling at you.
