I’ve been home this morning with Harper, whose school is closed for the day. The weather this morning would have been nothing to the salt-trucked-equipped Midwest, but the forecasters mentioned the two most feared words in North Carolina – “wintry mix” – so most of the city is shut down. Being a particularly social child, Harper is not all that good at entertaining herself, so we spent most of the morning reading Christmas books (including both copies of Mr. Willowby’s Christmas Tree). She did spend a few minutes cuddled up with her elephant in front of the heating vent in our our room, squeezed in the corner between Rob’s dresser and nightstand. But I finally resorted to letting her watch a video so I could get a couple things done. Now, we’re about to venture out into the icy world so I can drop her off at the home of some church friends who offered to watch her so I can take care of some things at church. Wish us luck.
